“Is the culture of consumption good for American Society?”
I. Introduction:
There’s no denying the fact that the country we live is full of consumers. American is all based on consumerism and it’s how Americans live there daily lives.
Thesis: The culture of consumption is good for American society because consumerism helps the economy, it’s a stress relief, and as Americans, we ambition.
II. Body
A. When we go out and buy something, we help the economy gain more money and more opportunities for ourselves.
1. Depending how businesses lure costumers in a store, a small company can turn into a big company.
2. Thus the more stores created, creates more jobs.
B. Other than helping our country economically, we tend to consume because of our needs.
1.Stressful moments happen to us, and shopping to lift our moods is something we do.
2. We become more social around people and become involved in popular culture
C. In American culture, we always strike for “more,” therefore making us ambition.
1.According to Laurence Shames, “Americans have been somewhat backward in adopting values, hopes, ambitions that have to do with things other than more”
2.When we fail on a business idea, cause of consumption in America, we always have a second chance.
“There was always a second chance, or always seemed to be, in this land where growth was destiny and where expansion and purpose were the same” (Shames, 91)
III. Conclusion
Consumption makes this country keep going. It helps the economy, and ourselves as well, making us ambitions.
